The Poetry of Gore: Alexandre Philippe’s Chain Reactions @ Overlook Film Festival

[Seen as part of Overlook Film Festival]

Theres something very special about how an impactful piece of art reverberates in the bodies and memory of its viewer. The visceral sensory elements that linger long past its initial exposure.
How the specificity of our own circumstance, feeds into the meat of the thing and becomes part of it, changing it, and us.
Alexandre Philippe gets into the guts of something gorgeous here. Plays with the poetry of gore. Selects subjects with savory experiences. Some who have allowed the image burned on celluloid to also seer their dreaming hearts. It is the highest of blessings to meet with the poetry of the thing, to reach past the bones and muscles into the soul.
Walking away from chain reactions, I am changed. I have come into contact with the revelation of catharsis. I am spurred on to reanalyze art eternally. To come into contact with the revelatory power of stories and images and experiences as connection and tools to understanding and consuming the world around me. Perhaps Philipe has added me of my link in the chain.
